UCAR is seeking a CPAESS Scientist III to independently apply advanced forecasting methods (including AI/ML) to improve sub-seasonal to seasonal predictions of extreme climate events. The role involves stakeholder engagement and co-developing impact forecasts with partners in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa, with bilingual English/French proficiency.

The position supports NOAA’s CPC under NEWS, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to scientific publications and program development.

Formación

• Requires advanced forecasting experience with AI/ML and ensemble post-processing.
• Experience translating complex science to stakeholders and end users.
• Ability to mentor colleagues and lead cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsabilidades

• Lead applications of forecasting methods to improve S2S predictions.
• Develop/adapt tools and workflows for data processing and analysis.
• Collaborate with partners to co-develop impact forecasts and training materials.
• Mentor team members and contribute to publications and reports.
• Coordinate across disciplines and institutions to advance project goals.
• Provide technical guidance and model development for forecast systems.
