Job summary

CWSAA is seeking a Snowshoe Guide for the S’Cool Ski Program to lead school-group sessions and supervise youth participants aged 5–15. Guides will instruct, manage equipment, and ensure safety during outdoor activities.

Responsibilities include coordinating with teachers, adjusting activities to skill levels, and working in varying weather conditions. Strong communication and leadership are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of snowshoe area operations.
• Demonstrate superior snowshoe skills.
• Must have a current Criminal Record Check to work with Youth.
• Be able to follow directions and work independently while managing multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Instruct 4 hr sessions with school groups (students aged 5-15).
• Work with large numbers of participants often up to 15+ kids per guide.
• Work with parent helpers.
• Work in adverse conditions.
• Assist with rentals and equipment setup for children.
• Demonstrate sound snowshoe skills, trail knowledge, map reading, flora/fauna knowledge.
• Provide feedback and support to participants in an articulate and thoughtful manner.
• Coordinate with class teachers to create appropriate skill level groupings.
• Set activity level for the group dynamic and determine duration.
• Represent frontline staff on a Joint Health and Safety Committee.

Job description

Reports To: Operations Manager / S’Cool Ski Lead & Guest Services

Hours: 5 to 20 hrs/wk (depending on availability and program)

Hourly Rate: $19.75 hr

Perk: SLNC Season Pass (with minimum commitment of 1-2 shifts per week)

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Working knowledge of snowshoe area operations
• Strong Snowshoe Skills
• Must have a minimum Level 1 First Aid Certification (SLNC will reimburse for course if necessary)
• MUST have a current Criminal Record Check to work with Youth
• To take direction, function independently and manage multiple tasks
• Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to think and act independently
• Demonstrate team leadership
• Ability to function effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrate administrative and delegation skills
• Good computer skills (word processing, web and information management)
• Superior communications skills in working with youth, team members and the public
