Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on custom automation machinery.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and debug Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) (e.g., Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, machine calibration, and system optimization to ensure peak performance.
  • Interact directly with clients to understand issues, provide technical explanations, and offer solutions with a strong customer service focus.
  • Accurately document all service activities, including detailed problem descriptions, resolutions, and parts utilized.
  • Provide basic training to client staff on machine operation and routine maintenance.
  • Manage service parts inventory and tooling required for field assignments.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and company policies at all client locations.
Recommended Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Field Service Technician, Automation Technician, Industrial Electrician, or Controls Technician within a manufacturing or automation environment.
  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent military training/experience.
  • Proven experience with PLC troubleshooting and basic programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for machine assembly, precision alignment, and fluid power systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
  • Proficiency with industrial diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel extensively (potentially overnight and nationally) to client sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with industrial robotics (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, Universal Robots).
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively on the road.
