Job summary

Canonical is hiring Rust Engineering Leads of all levels to advance Rust across Ubuntu and internal projects. Roles emphasize deep Linux experience and distributed systems; fully remote with worldwide teams and periodic in-person sprints.

We seek candidates with strong academic records, CS/ STEM backgrounds, and a passion for open source. Excellent English and collaboration across cultures are essential.

Qualifications

• Academic track record in high school and university.
• Undergraduate degree in CS or STEM, or an equivalent path.
• Senior roles with distributed systems/APIs experience is a plus.
• Self-starter, organized, and able to deliver to schedule.
• Professional English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and write high-quality Rust software for Linux.
• Advocate Rust adoption in Canonical and upstream projects.
• Identify candidates and codebases for Rust adoption.
• Debug and fix issues reported by users.
• Participate in code and architectural reviews.
• Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specs.
• Drive improvements to engineering and operations practices.
• Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
• Contribute to product success through technical advocacy.
