Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Battalion Energy is expanding its engineering team around the EMS backend platform. You will own features in major deployments, designing and delivering production capabilities reused across sites and markets.
We seek strong Rust skills, systems programming depth and the ability to move quickly in a large codebase. Remote-to-start with a move to hybrid in 2027, Austin-based relocation possible.
Battalion Energy is advancing the power infrastructure that AI data centers and critical industries depend on. We’ve built a next-generation software platform for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and critical power. We’re seeing exceptional demand, with major projects under contract and a growing slate of large-scale opportunities.
Our energy management system (EMS) unifies supervisory control, power plant and microgrid control, optimization and cloud operations in an extensible platform. Its flexibility and our expertise in battery systems and medium voltage uninterruptible power supply (MV UPS) systems help customers address demanding power requirements.
Our wider software offering includes battery modeling, analysis and optimization. With deployments in several countries, we serve front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter storage, solar-plus-storage projects, critical power microgrids and industrial facilities. We’re extending the platform into new applications, site and fleet operations, and additional energy markets.
Battalion’s technical leadership brings deep expertise in energy storage, utility software, remote monitoring, automation and controls. Strong customer relationships and partnerships with battery and power system manufacturers support our growth. We work collaboratively and hold ourselves to high engineering standards.
We’re expanding across engineering, sales, operations, field service, marketing and business support, with growing offices in Austin, Texas, and Bend, Oregon. Our ambition is to become the world’s leading software platform for battery systems, supporting their deployment and operation across an expanding range of markets and applications.
This role focuses on our EMS and control platform. You will own features that run in major customer deployments, with real autonomy over how they are designed and built. You will work directly with our senior engineers, Chief Engineer and CTO, proposing designs and delivering production capabilities that are reused across customers, sites and markets.
Most of your time will be spent designing, writing, testing and reviewing code. You will own features from technical design through implementation, unit tests, code review and release. We will discuss your initial technical focus early in the process.
We are not screening on years of experience or job title. We are looking for proficiency in Rust, strong design skills, and the ability to find your footing quickly in a large codebase.
You will spend your days in the backend internals of an EMS that controls real hardware at real sites, where correctness counts for more than speed of delivery. It is a demanding environment, and it suits engineers who want real scope and are ready to own it.
Rust is the language you will spend your days in. You do not need to have written it professionally, but you do need to be strong in it: comfortable with ownership and borrowing, traits and generics, threaded or async concurrency, and the error handling patterns that hold up in production. Serious personal or open source work counts.
The core EMS is built in Rust on real-time Linux. It combines supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), power plant control (PPC), microgrid control and optimization, with an architecture for plugins and applications. You will work on real-time coordination, resilience and integration across battery systems and data center infrastructure.
Beyond core controls, you can contribute to equipment integrations, the React interface and Battalion Live, our AWS monitoring and telemetry portal. Integrations span batteries, power electronics, meters, protection relays, microgrid controllers and data center systems.
Experience with BESS, MV UPS or real-time controls is a plus, but not a requirement. Familiarity with real-time Linux, industrial protocols, AWS or React is also helpful.
This role is remote to start. We expect to move to a hybrid schedule mid-2027, with three days a week in the office and the remaining days available for remote work. Occasional field travel is available based on interest and is not required for this role.
Austin, Texas is strongly preferred, and a relocation package is available. You would need to be in Austin by the time we move to hybrid.
Competitive base salary, bonus and equity, with flexibility in the mix based on the candidate and role. We currently offer a benefits stipend while a benefits package is being established, with availability estimated for January 1, 2027.
