Job summary

Parry Labs, LLC seeks a Rust Software Engineer in Alexandria, VA to build and test Rust components for distributed mission systems under senior guidance. You will develop defined components, investigate defects, and learn systems programming through code reviews and integration work.

The target start is November 2026, with duties ranging from unit tests to telemetry features. Strong collaboration with software, systems, and security engineers is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field or equivalent training/practical experience.
• Hands-on programming experience from coursework, internships, personal projects or employment.
• Working knowledge of Rust ownership, borrowing, basic types and error handling, plus Cargo build and test workflows.
• Understanding of basic data structures, functions and software testing; able to explain and debug your own code.
• Familiarity with Linux development tools and Git version control.
• Ability to work from defined requirements, ask focused questions and incorporate code-review feedback.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance if required; active clearance not required at hire.

About the Job

You will build and test Rust software for distributed mission systems under senior engineer guidance. You will develop defined components, investigate defects and learn systems programming through code reviews and integration work. You will report to a functional software engineering manager, with technical direction from the Chief Engineer.

The target start is November 2026.

• Debug software issues using logs, tests and development tools. Document steps to reproduce defects.
• Build simple interfaces, message handling and telemetry features using established team designs.
• Use Cargo, Git and automated checks to build, test and submit changes for review.
• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback on correctness, readability and memory safety.
• Support laboratory integration and test activities with software, systems and security engineers.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Rust coursework, internship work, open-source contributions or a personal project with automated tests.
• Exposure to network programming, asynchronous code or concurrency.
• Experience with C/C++, Python, embedded devices or hardware interfaces.
• Familiarity with continuous integration, distributed systems or positioning, navigation and timing (PNT).
