Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks an interpreter and liaison to bridge communication between staff, students, parents/guardians and the community. You will provide accurate interpretation, collaborate with ESOL teachers, and help assess students’ strengths and challenges.

You will support engagement, translate notices, participate in IEP and testing contexts, and build partnerships with immigrant and refugee organizations to ensure equitable access to services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. If educated outside of the US, credentials must be verified through a PDE Evaluation service.
• Basic computer knowledge, i.e. Microsoft Suite.
• Speak, read and write English and the appropriate foreign language fluently.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between school staff, students, and parents/guardians by providing accurate, impartial interpretation.
• Collaborates with ESOL and other teachers by interpreting rubrics and instructions for activities and assessments.
• Provides ongoing communication between students' parents/guardians and school staff about academic performance, attendance and behavior.
• Participates in discussions with counselors and multilingual students/parents to aid post-secondary plans.
• Encourages and supports parent engagement via culturally-informed outreach and notices of meetings.
• Informs multilingual students and LEP parents about school expectations, rules and policies.
• Distributes translated documents and ensures all parent communications are translated.
• Interprets at IEP meetings, psychological evaluations, and testing.
• Meets with LEP students and parents to support participation in school counseling.
• Enlists cooperation of school personnel to align student interests and goals.
