Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia is seeking an interpreter and cultural broker to support multilingual students and families. You will bridge communication between school staff, parents/guardians, and students to ensure equitable access to district services.

Responsibilities include collaborating with ESOL staff, translating essential documents, and assisting in IEP meetings and post-secondary planning discussions for students and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; credentials verified if educated outside the US.
• Fluent in English and one of the listed foreign languages.
• Knowledge of social, cultural and educational needs of students in the immigrant community.

Responsibilities

• Interpret oral and written information between school staff, students, and parents/guardians.
• Collaborate with ESOL and teachers to interpret rubrics and classroom instructions.
• Provide ongoing communication about student performance, attendance and behavior.
• Assist in post-secondary educational and career planning discussions with students and families.
• Translate district documents and inform families about policies and procedures.
• Interpret at IEP meetings, evaluations, and parent/teacher conferences.
• Support outreach to immigrant and refugee families and build partnerships with serving organizations.
