State of Washington is seeking a Student Support Specialist (PS 4) for the Rural Nursing Education Program. The role provides individualized academic advising, mentorship, and resource coordination to nursing students across Washington, with remote work and about 20% fieldwork statewide.

The position supports prerequisite coursework, applications, progression in nursing programs, and helps address barriers such as finances, childcare, and transportation to expand rural healthcare access.

Qualifications

• There are multiple pathways to qualify for this position, including combinations of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with one year of experience.
• Experience advising and guiding students through programs and services is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising, mentorship, and guidance throughout nursing education.
• Coordinate with colleges and faculty to support academic progress and program requirements.
• Identify barriers to student success and connect students with resources like tutoring, financial aid, childcare, transportation, and test prep.
• Build relationships with colleges, hospitals, and community organizations to support student retention and completion.
