Job summary

West River Health Services in Hettinger, ND, seeks an Internal Medicine physician to provide comprehensive adult care across inpatient and outpatient settings within WRHS, a rural health system serving the area.

The role includes teaching residents and medical students, coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team, and offering backup physician coverage for the Emergency Department in alignment with WRHS policies and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited institution.
• Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• Current North Dakota medical license or licensure eligibility.
• Active DEA registration and prescribing authority.
• Eligible for WRHS Medical Staff appointment and clinical privileges.
• BLS certification; ACLS within WRHS timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient internal medicine services, preventive care, and chronic disease management.
• Perform inpatient admissions, rounds, and co-management with the care team.
• Ensure timely documentation, coding support, and seamless care transitions across settings.
• Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and specialists.
• Educate residents and rural medical students, and provide bedside and clinic teaching.
• Provide backup physician coverage for Emergency Department staffing per schedule.

Education

MD/DO degree from an accredited institution

Board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine (ACGME/AOA)

Current North Dakota medical license or eligible

DEA registration (active)

Eligible for WRHS Medical Staff appointment and privileges

Current BLS; ACLS within WRHS timeframe
