Overview:

The CDC Foundation is seeking a Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Content Coordinator to support the Kentucky Rural Health Transformation Program (RHT). The Kentucky RHT is a multi-year, statewide initiative to modernize rural health systems and improve access, quality and sustainability for rural Kentuckians. The program operates across five interdependent initiatives — Rural Community Hubs, PoWER (perinatal health), Rapid Response to Recovery (behavioral health and crisis care), Rooted In Health (integrated/oral health), and Crisis To Care (community trauma care and EMS) — coordinated by a central program office.

This role combines hands-on content production with active participation in the communications strategies and execution plans that guide the program’s work, ensuring clear, consistent and coordinated messaging across a large, multi-vertical portfolio.

Working in close partnership with the Communications Lead, the Coordinator also serves as day-to-day coordination lead for the Engagement and Outreach Coordinator team, ensuring field-facing staff have the materials, messaging direction, and support they need to represent the program effectively in communities across Kentucky.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, public policy, public administration, marketing or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or strategic communications
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies that support large-scale programs, initiatives or portfolios
  • Proven ability to translate complex programmatic, technical or policy information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for executive, legislative and public audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizations and functions to coordinate messaging and support alignment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting communications in healthcare, public health, nonprofit, or public-sector settings
  • Experience coordinating review or approval workflows across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with web content management systems or basic page editing
  • Familiarity with Kentucky’s rural communities or public health landscape
Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy
  • Coordinate the execution of strategic communication plans, including direct production of materials and coordination with consultants as needed
  • Establish and maintain clear, consistent narratives that articulate program objectives, progress, and outcomes for diverse internal and external audiences
  • Track execution against plans, surfacing gaps, timeline risks and scope changes proactively to keep communication strategy on course
  • Co-develop systems, processes, and frameworks that enable the communications team to deliver materials with consistency and speed across a multi-vertical portfolio
Content Production and Execution
  • Draft, edit, and format communications materials including program updates, partner newsletters, web copy, and initiative-specific documents in alignment with approved messaging and brand standards
  • Support development and maintenance of web content for ruralhealthplan.ky.gov, including page updates and flagging content for Communications Lead review
  • Prepare presentation materials, briefing documents and one-pagers for program leadership and initiative teams using approved templates
Intake and Workflow Coordination
  • Serve as first point of contact and manager for incoming communications requests and tracking from initiative, ensuring requests are complete before routing to the Communications Lead
Initiative Team Support
  • Provide guidance to initiative staff on messaging consistency, formatting standards, and submission requirements, escalating to the Communications Lead when questions involve strategy or approval decisions
  • Track initiative-level communications needs and flag emerging gaps or timing conflicts to the Communications Lead
Standards, Quality, and Operations
  • Apply KY RHTP messaging, tone and brand standards consistently across all materials, proofreading and formatting work before it enters the review process
  • Maintain shared file libraries and content archives in program-approved platforms, ensuring materials are organized, versioned, and accessible
  • Manage the editorial calendar and intake tracker, keeping statuses current and flagging items at risk of missing deadlines
  • Track communications activity metrics and support reporting to the Communications Lead
