Job summary

Kform in Sterling, Virginia is hiring a Ruggedized Electronics Assembly Technician to turn precise instructions into field-ready hardware for defense applications. You will assemble electro-mechanical products to spec, install fasteners, route wiring, and perform in-process inspections.

Responsibilities

• Assemble electro-mechanical products to spec using drawings, travelers, BOMs, and instructions.
• Install fasteners and inserts; mount brackets and panels; route and terminate wiring; place components.
• Operate hand/power tools, torque tools, crimpers; use basic electrical test equipment safely.
• Execute clean cable routing, labeling, enclosure assembly, and final system integration.
• Document labor, materials, serial numbers, and test/inspection results accurately.
• Maintain traceability and distinguish conforming from nonconforming material.
• Identify and communicate issues to engineering, quality, or production leadership promptly.
• Support prototype and first-article builds; provide feedback to improve methods and fixtures.
• Assist with rework/inspection, packaging, kitting, and shipping prep as required.
• Keep area orderly and safe; follow 5S and Kform procedures for quality, safety, and security.

Your impact

• Assemble electro-mechanical products to spec using drawings, travelers, BOMs, and detailed work instructions.
• Install fasteners and inserts; mount brackets and panels; fit seals and connectors; route and terminate wiring and cable assemblies; place electronic components.
• Operate hand and power tools, torque tools, crimpers, and measuring instruments; use basic electrical test equipment safely and effectively.
• Execute clean cable routing, connector labeling, hardware installation, enclosure assembly, and final system integration.
• Apply adhesives, thread-lockers, sealants, and thermal interface materials per defined processes.
• Perform in-process inspections—verify workmanship, dimensions, hardware selection, configuration, and completeness.
• Run continuity, functional, and operational tests under approved procedures.
• Document labor, materials, serial numbers, and all test/inspection results accurately.
• Maintain clear product identification and configuration control, ensure traceability, and separate conforming from nonconforming material.
• Identify and communicate drawing, material, fit, process, or workmanship issues to engineering, quality, or production leadership quickly.
• Support prototype and first-article builds; provide actionable feedback to improve assembly methods, instructions, fixtures, and manufacturability.
• Assist with rework/repair, in-process and final inspection, packaging, kitting, and shipping prep as required.
• Keep your area orderly and safe; practice good housekeeping and 5S.
• Follow Kform procedures for quality, safety, cybersecurity, export control, and handling of controlled information.
• Protect customer information, technical data, materials, and hardware.
• Contribute to other production activities when business priorities shift.

Qualifications you bring

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ year of experience in mechanical/electronics assembly, manufacturing, maintenance, automotive repair, aviation, field service, or similar technical work.
• Ability to interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, BOMs, work instructions, and written procedures.
• Competence with common hand tools and measurement devices.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to detect hardware, component, material, and basic workmanship defects.
• Discipline in following controlled processes and documenting completed work accurately.
• Basic computer skills for accessing digital instructions and entering production data.
• Clear communication with technicians, engineers, quality, and production leadership.
• Works independently after training and thrives in a team setting.
• Reliable on-site presence in Sterling, Virginia.
• Meets eligibility requirements for assignments involving export-controlled products, technical information, or customer programs, as applicable.

Stand-out experience

• 2+ years assembling defense, aerospace, industrial, telecommunications, computing, robotics, or ruggedized electronics.
• Background in low-volume, high-mix manufacturing or new-product introduction.
• Hands-on assembly of sheet-metal enclosures, machined components, electronic systems, cable harnesses, control panels, or ruggedized equipment.
• Crimping, soldering, wire preparation, cable fabrication, and connector assembly expertise.
• Use of torque tools, calipers, multimeters, continuity testers, and inspection equipment.
• Familiar with IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, ESD controls, or similar standards.
• Experience operating within ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality-management systems.
• Comfort completing travelers, inspection records, nonconformance reports, and electronic manufacturing records.
• Technical school, military technical training, apprenticeship, manufacturing certification, or related vocational education.
