Job summary

CFD Research Corporation seeks a highly capable Mechanical Engineer specializing in Product Development and Mechanical Design to own the full lifecycle from concept to production.

The role focuses on ruggedized aerospace and military products, developing structures, enclosures, thermal solutions, and electronics packaging, while maintaining templates, documentation, and manufacturing-ready outputs.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent advanced 3D CAD tools.
• Experience with FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical or SolidWorks Simulation.
• Experience designing mechanical assemblies for electronics or rugged hardware.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, thermal fundamentals, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with aerospace/military mechanical design requirements and environmental qualification.
• Experience using mechanical lab tools for hands-on verification.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain/maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical product development and design from concept to production release.
• Model assemblies including enclosures, structural parts, mechanisms, mounting hardware, and electronics packaging.
• Perform stack up analysis, GD&T, tolerance analysis for manufacturability.
• Conduct structural, shock, vibration, modal, and thermal analyses for MIL STD 810 compliance.
• Create complete mechanical documentation packages under AS9100 processes.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles to support efficient production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Develop thermal management strategies and heat transfer paths.
• Support ruggedization: sealing, gasketing, coatings, vibration protection.
