Job summary

EnVogue International in New York is seeking a Rug Designer to create trend-driven area rug collections with a strong emphasis on textile design, materials, and merchandising for major retailers.

You will develop artwork, CADs, color stories, and presentation materials to support buyer meetings and seasonal assortments, collaborating with product development, sourcing, and overseas factories to ensure cohesive, commercially viable collections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Textile Design, Surface Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, or related field.
• Strong experience in textile design, pattern development, CADs, product merchandising, and assortment development.
• Portfolio demonstrating relevant textile or rug designs, artwork, product development, and merchandising work.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop seasonal area rug collections across a variety of styles, constructions, materials, and price points.
• Create original artwork, patterns, textures, motifs, and colorways for printed, woven, tufted, and other rug constructions.
• Research and forecast trends in rugs, home décor, color, materials, textures, and lifestyle products.
• Translate trends and retailer needs into cohesive, commercially relevant product assortments and merchandising concepts.
• Explore and select yarns, fibers, weaves, pile heights, textures, finishes, and construction techniques.
• Develop presentation-ready CADs, repeats, color stories, mockups, and merchandising presentations for internal and buyer meetings.
• Merchandise rug collections by coordinating patterns, colorways, constructions, sizes, and price points across assortments.
• Prepare and review artwork, tech packs, strike-offs, color approvals, and samples to ensure design accuracy and quality.
• Work with overseas factories on material development, weaving, tufting, printing techniques, and sample execution.
• Partner with Sales on buyer requests, retailer-specific assortments, product presentations, and merchandising strategies.
• Collaborate with Product Development, Sourcing, and Production to meet design, quality, costing, and timeline requirements.

About the Role

As a Rug Designer, you will design and develop trend-driven area rug collections with a strong emphasis on textile design, product merchandising, materials, and commercially relevant design. • Ability to develop cohesive, commercially viable collections with a strong understanding of retail merchandising, product coordination, and price-point positioning.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Experience working with overseas factories and major retail accounts preferred.
• Strong sense of color, pattern, scale, texture, and emerging trends, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Portfolio demonstrating relevant textile or rug designs, artwork, product development, and merchandising work required.
