Job Description

Job Title: Press Operator

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor

Summary

Research Tool & Die Works is seeking a motivated candidate to fill a press operator position. The ideal candidate will operate or tend machines to cut, shear, punch, or bend metal in a safe and efficient manner. The role also involves operating a saw machine safely and accurately, with attention to detail for trimming materials to specified lengths using a job card.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications such as materials, dimensions, and tolerances.
  2. Load workpieces into machines.
  3. Operate machines to cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten materials.
  4. Start machines, monitor operations, and record data.
  5. Review parts every 15 minutes using FAI samples as a guide.
  6. Measure finished workpieces for conformance using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  7. Inspect workpieces for defects and sort defective pieces accordingly.
  8. Set up and adjust the saw machine for each job, following job card instructions.
  9. Locate and load material safely onto the saw machine.
  10. Set stops or guides for specified lengths and trim material ends.
  11. Select or program established machine programs for specific parts.
  12. Operate the saw machine while monitoring for defects or issues.
  13. Use measurement tools to ensure accuracy.
  14. Assist in packing and transporting finished pieces.
  15. Complete paperwork, job cards, and material status sheets accurately.
  16. Maintain daily records of labor and part counts online.
  17. Clean workstation at shift end and adhere to all safety policies.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  2. Technical or apprentice certification (preferred).
  3. Ability to perform complex duties independently under supervision.
  4. Strong attention to detail and good work habits.
  5. Ability to read work orders, instructions, and perform counts.
  6. Placement on a scale from A-D based on experience and qualifications.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in noisy environments.
  • Prolonged standing, repetitive actions, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive movements and occasional bending or twisting.
  • Wearing safety equipment required.
  • Indoor work in non-controlled conditions with exposure to noise.

This position may require access to export-controlled data. Candidates must qualify as a U.S. Person, providing proof such as a US Passport, Permanent Resident Card, US birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate. Maintaining licensing is a condition of employment.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with scheduled overtime as needed. The standard shift is Monday-Thursday from 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
