Job summary

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare in New Haven, CT is seeking full-time Respiratory Therapists to join our rehabilitation-focused team. You will provide therapeutic care and life support to patients by physician orders and under supervision of the Respiratory Care Director.

Responsibilities include ventilator management, airway care, ABG analysis, bedside procedures, patient education, and participation in code teams.

Qualifications

• Associate's of Science degree required.
• Bachelor's degree in a health related field preferred.
• Current RRT Certificate required.
• Current CT RCP license required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients by prescription.
• Provides ventilator care, airway management and related treatments.
• Interprets orders and analyzes arterial blood gases to determine therapy.
• Performs breathing assessments and determines therapy duration and medications.
• Participates in code teams and responds to emergencies.
• Assists in education of patients, families and staff and supports student training.

Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients by prescription and under the supervision of a physician and the Director of Respiratory Care or designee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provides ventilator care, secretion mobilization treatments, and other treatments as ordered by physician.
• Provides all aspects of airway care, maintenance and education.
• Performs breathing assessments and mechanics as needed for all purposes as ordered by physician.
• Interprets Orders - Draws and analyze arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosage.
• Participates in ambulation and mobility.
• Charts all pertinent information on patient's chart.
• Assists in bedside Bronchoscopy.
• Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators.
• May act in the role of Charge Therapist and carry out shift responsibilities as assigned.
• Assists in the orientation and training of students, new staff members, patients, families and care.
• Active member of code team – responds to emergencies and provides care, CPR, airway maintenance including intubation.
• Represents Respiratory Care as a member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.
• Evaluates patients upon admission & discharge.
