Regional School Unit 1

Early Childhood Special Education Teacher/Coordinator

RSU 1 is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Special Education Teacher/Coordinator to support the implementation of our early childhood special education program (4 year olds). This position will be responsible for delivering specially designed instruction, conducting evaluations, and providing and coordinating IEP services to students in the school and community settings. Experience working with children who have developmental, learning, and social-emotional/behavioral challenges, and experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes teachers, providers, and families, is desired. Some summer work time is required for this position.

Candidates Will Be Responsible For Ensuring Compliance With

  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations in our commitment to Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to 4 year olds with disabilities in being educated within their Least Restrictive Environment.
  • Maine United Special Education Regulations, Chapter 101 (MUSER)

Qualifications

  • Special Education teaching/case management experience and knowledge of special education regulations.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a proven ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience with the supervision of educational technicians

Responsibilities

  • Conduct special education screenings and evaluations for child find, initial referrals, and triennial reviews.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).
  • Oversees tracking systems and timelines to remain in compliance with special education timelines.
  • Completes case management responsibilities as needed.
  • Effectively chair and facilitate IEP meetings (as an admin designee).
  • Supports the supervision of educational technicians as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with parents, teachers, and other service providers.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Director on IEP budget needs for early childhood programs.

Certification

  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities Teaching Certificate (282B)
  • Current Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
