Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities

• Interact with co‑workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Administer physician‑prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation.
• Perform evaluation procedures, both invasive and non‑invasive, to determine respiratory care needs and make recommendations based upon department protocols.
• Monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure safety and appropriate care.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens; measure lung capacity to identify impairments.
• Provide diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on specimen analysis.
• Communicate with other health‑care team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Maintain smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential.

Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s)

Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Respiratory Care; licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine; certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS); Associate’s/2‑year degree required; registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). If not registered, must obtain NBRC registration within 2 years of hire.

Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s)

ACLS and/or NALS preferred; prior experience preferred.

Salary Range

$33.52 to $47.78 hourly. Actual hiring rate will be based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
