Job description

RRT / Registered Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Care - Full Time - Nights - (85162)

$15,000 sign on bonus for external candidates only with a 2 year commitment to the organization

ProMedica Flower Hospital is located in Sylvania, OH, a suburb of Toledo, OH. The Flower Hospital campus is a 311-bed facility that houses the Hickman Cancer Center, ER Trauma Center, and is the regional leader for inpatient adult psychiatric services.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Respiratory Therapist will be competent to care for patients of all ages, dependent on the area assigned. This individual performs duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision from the Respiratory Care Department leadership team and the Medical Directors of Respiratory Care. Responsibilities include making independent decisions regarding modification of therapy in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, policies, and procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Achieves and maintains competency to perform prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, including:
    • General Care: patient identification and assessment, medical gas delivery, medication administration via nebulizers and MDI/DPI, bronchopulmonary hygiene, and hyperinflation therapy.
    • Critical Care: initiation, management, and weaning of invasive and non-invasive ventilation; airway management; intubation and extubation; set-up and maintenance of indwelling lines and catheters.
    • Emergency Care: responds to rapid responses and emergency codes; performs CPR and airway management.
    • Diagnostic Care: blood sampling and analysis, continuous monitoring, and bedside pulmonary function screens.
  2. Safely assembles, operates, and troubleshoots therapeutic and diagnostic equipment required for patient care.
  3. Understands and applies Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines to provide safe and efficient care.
  4. Provides educational needs of patients on disease-specific processes and respiratory care services.
  5. Assists with clinical instruction of respiratory care, nursing, medical students, and residents as needed.
  6. Completes accurate patient documentation, including billing and productivity standards.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned by leadership.

Job Requirements

  • Education: A graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program and maintain credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Skills: Must be able to input and retrieve computer information.
  • License: Must be licensed to render respiratory care services by the respective state(s) of practice – Ohio and/or Michigan.
  • Certification: Must hold current BLS certification; ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification is recommended.
