Job description

Overview

Alera Group is looking for a remote Account Manager to join our Absence Solutions team.

Alera Group was founded in 2017 and has grown to become the 15th largest broker of US business. We are passionate about our clients’ success in the areas of Employee Benefits, Property and Casualty Insurance, Retirement Plan Services, and Wealth Services. With a network of offices nationwide, our commitment to collaboration allows us to offer national resources combined with local service.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of employer clients by serving as the primary relationship lead, building trust through responsive service, regulatory compliance (FMLA, ADA, PFML, STD), and strategic alignment with client goals.

  • Conduct and lead annual reviews, performance evaluations, and strategic planning sessions, offering insights on benefit optimization, compliance updates, and process enhancements.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand client engagement, such as promoting private PFML plans or integrating short-term disability (STD) administration into existing services.

  • Support sales and consulting teams during RFP, finalist presentations, and onboarding phases; lead kickoff meetings and implementation planning to ensure a seamless transition to service.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders (product, claims, IT) to manage the transition from sale to service and maintain continuity in client experience.

  • Oversee ongoing program delivery by monitoring client KPIs, regulatory obligations, and service performance to ensure compliance, quality, and efficiency.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on leave policy best practices, employee communications, return-to-work programs, and emerging regulatory trends, offering proactive consultation and issue resolution.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, though equivalent work experience is acceptable; must hold an active Life & Health insurance license or obtain one within 90 days of hire.

  • 7+ years in employee benefits account management, insurance brokerage, or third-party administration, with in-depth expertise in leave and disability programs (FMLA, ADA, PFML, STD/LTD).

  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining trusted client relationships, managing complex service needs, and effectively coordinating cross-functional internal teams.

  • Strong ability to analyze claims and service data, identify trends, and deliver insightful, actionable recommendations to clients.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation abilities; adept at leading client meetings and communications across all levels of an organization.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with CRM systems and leave administration tools is a strong plus.

  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and strong sense of ownership; comfortable working with large group accounts, national employers, and within fast-paced, technology-driven environments including HRIS and claims platform integrations.
