Title: RPG Developer
Location: Remote (US/PST)
Duration: 12+ months Long Term Project
Compensation: $50-60/hr
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Role Overview
The RPG Developer plays a vital role in the organization by performing activities related to the company's Information Technology functions. The role primarily involves designing, maintaining, and implementing in-house applications using Websmart, RPG (all levels), and CL/CLLE on an IBMi platform. The RPG Developer III collaborates with business partners, analysts, and peers to document requirements, diagnose issues, and translate findings into technical specifications.
Essential Functions
- Analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain in-house software applications across various platforms and languages including Websmart, RPG, and CLLE on IBM System i.
- Collaborate on large projects with users, Business Analysts, and IT team members to develop technical specifications and assess the impact of changes.
- Create and utilize binding directories, prototypes, stored procedures, and service programs.
- Apply knowledge of data-centric architecture, design, programming, and performance tuning to resolve issues and update programs.
- Manage projects using project management and change management tools.
- Work with Support Desk, Training, and business partners to troubleshoot and resolve application errors.
- Evaluate new technologies for potential impact and provide insights and recommendations to management.
- Demonstrate commitment to quality and customer service, working effectively in a team environment.
- Provide time tracking and project feedback to management.
- Lead and participate in process improvement projects within the IT department.
- Act as a subject matter expert, mentoring less experienced team members and responding to escalated issues.
- Support training, create documentation, and share technical knowledge across the team.
- Review work of junior staff and provide feedback and assessments.
- Create templates and models for department-wide use.
- Engage in special initiatives and projects as assigned by management.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred, with at least five years of hands-on RPG programming experience on multiple complex projects, ideally in financial or mortgage industries.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in all versions of RPG and CL on IBMi.
- Experience with binding directories, prototypes, sub-procedures, and service programs.
- Knowledge of DB2 commands, SQL, SEQUEL, DDM, and performance tuning.
- Experience with embedded SQL, stored procedures, web services, and APIs.
- Basic understanding of FTP, SFTP, and XML.
- Familiarity with Websmart, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, and Bootstrap.
- Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- High ethical standards, team orientation, and sound judgment.
