Job description

Our customer, a leading transportation and logistics organization, is seeking an Automation Engineer to join its Automation & Emerging Technologies team. This individual will partner directly with business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities, gather requirements, design workflow automation solutions, and drive process improvements across the enterprise. This is a highly visible, business-facing role focused on delivering measurable operational efficiencies through workflow automation and enterprise technology solutions rather than simply developing bots.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify, analyze, and prioritize workflow automation opportunities.
  • Gather, document, and validate business and technical requirements for automation initiatives.
  • Design, develop, implement, and support workflow automation solutions using Automation Anywhere, UiPath, Power Automate, Blue Prism, or similar RPA platforms.
  • Lead automation projects from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Analyze business processes and recommend automation strategies that improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and deliver measurable business value.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and implement long-term solutions to improve reliability and performance.
  • Communicate technical concepts and project recommendations to business leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions with enterprise applications, APIs, and databases.
  • Measure and communicate project success through KPIs, ROI, and business outcome reporting.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to automation best practices as needed.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in workflow automation, robotic process automation (RPA), or business process automation.
  • Experience with Automation Anywhere, UiPath, Blue Prism, Microsoft Power Automate, or similar automation platforms.
  • Strong business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading automation projects from discovery through production deployment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience quantifying business impact through metrics, KPIs, ROI, and operational improvements.
  • Experience with SQL, APIs, enterprise application integrations, Agile methodologies, and AI-enabled automation solutions is preferred.
  • Leadership, mentoring, or technical project ownership experience is a plus.
