Job summary

Pairwise, based in Durham, NC, seeks a Trait Discovery Research Scientist to lead cross-functional projects applying deep molecular genetics to crop trait development.

This role requires a PhD, exceptional communication and organizational skills, and the ability to drive multiple projects concurrently while engaging collaborators and internal teams. You will contribute to data governance, patent filings, and technology leadership.

Qualifications

• PhD in plant developmental genetics or related field is required.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Deep knowledge of plant development, molecular genetics, and trait biology.
• Experience managing multiple projects concurrently preferred.
• Industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional trait discovery projects.
• Nominate trait gene targets and design edit alleles.
• Coordinate with partners and internal teams to deliver results.
• Communicate complex results clearly and document findings.
• Support invention disclosures and patent filings.
