Responsibilities

• Plans deliveries and routing for each driver to meet customer demands.
• Incorporates delivery times and stops into routing to optimize fleet use and costs.
• Determines cubic utilization of truck space and stops per route.
• Prepares driver sheets with routes and daily stop lists.
• Notes loading/delivery activities as requested by customers for efficiency.
• Assigns backhaul orders to appropriate drivers for area coverage.
• Reviews and updates routes based on daily routing sheets to improve efficiency.

TITLE: Router/Dispatcher

DIVISION: Warehouse Clerical

REPORTS TO: Routing Specialist Manager

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Position Overview

This position is an Operations position responsible for planning and coordinating the routing schedule for each delivery truck and performing other related duties as required.

Principle Responsibilities

• Plans the delivery of route to be taken by each driver in the delivery of goods and products to Gold Star customers. Determines needed stops and most precise use of available trucks to meet delivery demands most efficiently.
• Incorporates customer delivery demands in terms of unloading and delivery time into the routing schedule in an effort to most effectively and efficiently utilize the fleet and to reduce the cost of delivery related expenses.
• Determines the most appropriate cubic utilization of truck space in terms of route assigned, stops to be made, customer delivery demands, and unloading efficiency.
• Prepares loading and driver sheets showing the route assigned and ensures that each driver is provided an accurate and understandable listing of stops for any particular day.
• Prepares specific request notes identifying particular loading and delivery activities as desired by customers or warranted by the delivery schedule in an effort to enhance the effectiveness of the delivery activity.
• Identifies and assigns backhaul orders to the appropriate delivery driver in an effort to ensure that the backhaul is assigned to the driver who will be delivering to that particular area.
• Updates previous day’s routes by reviewing that days routing sheets and noting any discrepancies or problems and adjusting the sheet for this information in an effort to enhance the efficiency of the routing and delivery activity.

Education/Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years’ related experience (transportation routing, scheduling, or logistics) and/or training.
• RoadNet, Omnitracs and or NAV experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong computer skills and have a working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Working Conditions And Physical Demands

Warehouse office environment. Primary office environment is ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
