Job summary

A&L Foods, Inc. in Bensalem, PA is seeking a Router to plan and optimize daily delivery routes, balancing workloads and coordinating with warehouse operations to ensure on-time customer deliveries.

The role reports to the Logistics Manager, is non-exempt and full-time hourly, with a Sunday-Thursday schedule from 11am to 8pm. Prior routing/dispatch or related distribution experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, sequence, and optimize daily routes based on windows, volume, capacity, and driver availability.
• Create truck routes for night shift in warehouse management system.
• Balance driver workloads while considering drive time, route complexity, and stops.
• Coordinate priorities with warehouse and operations; manage time-sensitive deliveries.
• Review orders and routing data for accuracy including addresses and instructions.
• Adjust routes for issues such as delays, outages, weather, or disruptions.
• Communicate route changes to drivers, dispatchers, warehouse, and management.
• Monitor execution and support dispatch with updates and issue resolution.
• Maintain routing records and assist with reporting on route metrics.
• Back up delivery driver as needed; perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY: The Router plans and optimizes daily delivery routes to support safe, efficient, and on-time customer deliveries. This role balances driver workloads, coordinates order priorities with warehouse operations, responds to service issues, and communicates route changes to drivers and dispatch personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: And is not limited too

• Plan, sequence, and optimize daily delivery routes based on customer delivery windows, order volume, equipment capacity, driver availability, and geographic efficiency.
• Creating truck routes within the warehouse management system for the night shift to pick and process.
• Balance route assignments and driver workloads while considering legal drive time, route complexity, stop count, and delivery requirements.
• Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams regarding order priorities, loading sequence, route readiness, and time-sensitive deliveries.
• Review orders and routing data for accuracy, including addresses, delivery instructions, service times, equipment needs, and special requirements.
• Adjust routes in response to customer service issues, late orders, driver call-outs, equipment problems, traffic, weather, or other operating disruptions.
• Communicate route assignments, changes, delivery priorities, and special instructions to drivers, dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and management.
• Monitor route execution and support dispatch with delivery updates, issue resolution, and service recovery action as needed.
• Maintain accurate routing records and assist with reporting on route miles, stops, delivery performance, and routing efficiency.
• Back up delivery driver as needed to cover routes as needed
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirement:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in routing, dispatch, transportation, delivery operations, or a related distribution role preferred.
• Proficiency in routing or dispatch software, mapping tools, and Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of DOT hours-of-service rules preferred.
• Customer Service Skills: Professional and responsive when supporting drivers, customers, warehouse teams, and internal departments.
• Organization and Time Management: Ability to prioritize routing tasks and meet daily dispatch deadlines.
• Attention to Detail: Ensures route sequences, delivery windows, order priorities, and driver assignments are accurate.
• Communication Skills: Clearly communicate route instructions, changes, delays, and service concerns.
• Problem-Solving: Adjusts routes quickly when service, staffing, equipment, traffic, or order issues arise.
• Attendance and Punctuality: Arrive at work on time and limit unscheduled absences.
• Technical Aptitude: Ability to learn and effectively use routing, dispatch, mapping, and order-management systems.
• Operational Efficiency: Balances customer service, legal drive time, driver workload, equipment capacity, and total route miles.
