Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Route Driver to operate a semi-truck or vacuum truck for collecting animal mortalities, fat and bone, or grease, depending on plant location. This role requires CDL A with tanker endorsements and strict adherence to safety, regulatory, and company policies.

Responsibilities include proving accurate route tickets, maintaining electronic DOT logs, and maintaining positive customer relations while ensuring proper handling and loading of materials at customer sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• CDL A with tanker endorsements is required.
• Must be registered on the FMCSA Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

• Collects and inspects raw material at pickup for foreign materials or hazards.
• Maintains vehicle cleanliness and proper loading of materials per location policy.
• Completes route tickets, logs, and customer signatures daily.
• Maintains electronic DOT log and adheres to all safety regulations and company policies.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and reports conditions as required.
• Represents the company professionally to customers and maintains excellent customer relations.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.

Job Description

A Route Driver is responsible for the operation of a semi-truck or vacuum truck to collect animal mortalities, fat and bone, or grease (vacuum truck) for removal from customer locations. Route Driver responsibility for which raw material is dependent on the Plant Location.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Collects and inspects raw material at time of pick up for any foreign or hazardous material at customer location
• Dependent on plant location, may pump or load grease containers; ensure cleanliness of container and surrounding area; returns container with screen and lock secured; notes any damages to container or corral area; properly completes route ticket with customer signature
• Required to maintain an Electronic DOT log
• Provides customer with receipt of pick-up and obtains signature of management at location.
• Responsible for company vehicle; maintains vehicle in cleanest possible manner; operates vehicle in accordance with Company, federal, state and local regulations
• Conducts all safety checks and inspections of vehicle; operates vehicle under state, federal, local regulations and in accordance with company policy and procedures; observes all company safety rules
• Completes vehicle condition report on a daily basis; operates under all Company safety standards
• Maintains excellent customer relations by providing quality, professional service at all times
• Responsible for completing all company required paperwork in accordance with company policies (route tickets, driver vehicle inspection reports, accident reports, mileage reports, service forms, etc.) on a daily basis
• Responsible for established route as assigned
• Attendance at all safety meetings required; may be asked to serve on Safety Committee
• Maintain and update vehicle condition report on a daily basis
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 21 years old with clean Motor Vehicle Record
• CDL A license holder with tanker endorsements
• Must be registered on https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior route experience within a customer-oriented environment preferred.
• Works well with others in a team environment.
• Dependable; reliable; ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
• Knowledge of safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle and general maintenance
• Experience with truck hydraulics is a plus
• Strong computer and basic math skills.
