Principal Responsibilities
  1. Performs special assignments of a non‑routine nature under very limited supervision.
  2. Under the direction of the supervisor, assumes general responsibility for the completion of the complex assignments.
  3. Inspects the work of others, on his job, and recommends changes.
  4. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments.
  5. Prioritizes and schedules repair work with supervisor.
  6. Secures materials, supplies and equipment.
  7. Estimates spare parts required and maintains stock replacement and inventory.
  8. Follows assembly drawings, specifications and instructions received from equipment manufacturers in the process of making repairs when available.
  9. Maintains preventive maintenance forms used in recording repairs, fuel and oil consumption, operating hours/miles, man hours and parts used in maintaining equipment.
  10. Maintains equipment repair areas in a clean, orderly fashion with tools and equipment organized so that they are readily available.
  11. Welds and cuts parts together using arc welding and gas equipment.
  12. Adjusts and sharpens equipment for proper operation.
  13. Assembles, installs and repairs all equipment used by the division.
  14. Cleans equipment with steam cleaners on a regularly scheduled basis and prior to making repairs. Touches‑up, paints, and performs bodywork.
  15. Directs lower labor grade employees assigned. Trains lower labor grade employees using various training methods. Observes safety standards and practices. Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification.
  16. Contingent upon operational needs, in addition to assigned base maintenance location can be required to work at other Yale grounds maintenance locations or road service calls.
Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and four or more years of experience performing both vehicular and equipment mechanical repair work in a grounds maintenance related setting. Hydraulic systems repair experience and documented diesel repair experience.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)
  1. Must Maintain ASE certification in the following: automotive brakes, automotive engine performance, and one other ASE certificate from the ASE Test Prep Choices.
  2. Must maintain a welding certificate or equivalent in arc, mig and acetylene/oxygen.
  3. Must hold valid CT motor vehicle driver's license (CDL).
