Casa Esperanza, Inc. is a bilingual/bicultural behavioral health treatment provider serving Boston and the Merrimack Valley. Our mission is to empower individuals and families to recover from addiction, trauma, mental illness, and other chronic medical conditions; overcome homelessness and discrimination; and achieve health and wellness through comprehensive, integrated care.

About the role

Casa Esperanza Inc. is seeking a dedicated Per Diem Round Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals to our patients. The ideal candidate will follow the Kitchen Manager’s recipes and directions to prepare three healthy meals daily for approximately 75 individuals. This role also ensures a variety of healthy snacks are available throughout the day, including weekends.

What you'll do

  • Prepare and cook meals following daily menus and Kitchen Manager guidelines, including cooking from scratch.
  • Serve and store food in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Stock and manage food supplies upon delivery, including fresh produce, dry goods, canned goods, spices, and pantry items.
  • Perform quality control checks on food before serving.
  • Monitor inventory and request supplies to meet meal demands.
  • Work independently as needed and cover shifts for other cooks when required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience preparing meals for groups of 75 or more.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including repetitive lifting of 25-50 pounds.
  • SERVSafe certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Participation in ongoing training related to nutrition and healthy meal preparation.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
  • Whole Foods: Focus on fresh ingredients, with some packaged/prepared foods incorporated.
  • Menu Fluidity: Ability to adapt to seasonal menu changes based on fresh ingredient availability.
  • Customization: Skilled in tailoring meals to meet dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Craftsmanship: Strong culinary skills and attention to detail in food preparation.

Job Type

Per Diem, with flexible availability required 7 days a week between 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
