Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced aviation professional for Air Methods operations in Illinois. You will operate aircraft safely, perform pre-flight inspections, verify airworthiness, and maintain flight logs while coordinating with medical teams.

Responsibilities include detailed flight planning, on-call readiness, documentation, and participation in meetings and community outreach. Candidates should have extensive VFR/IFR hours, FAA ratings, and a current medical certificate.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Weight not to exceed 250 pounds
• Less than seventy (70) years old
• Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months
• VFR: 2,000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1,500 flight hours in category
• VFR: 1,000 hours PIC in category
• VFR: 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time
• VFR: 200 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours at night
• VFR: 100 hours unaided night as PIC, with specified NVG substitution rules
• VFR: 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category, with specified FW substitution rules
• IFR: 2,500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2,000 hours in category
• IFR: 1,000 hours PIC in category
• IFR: 500 hours cross-country flight time and 100 hours night flight time
• IFR: 75 hours actual or simulated instrument time, including at least 50 hours in flight in an aircraft and 20 hours in actual instrument conditions in category
• Commercial & Instrument Rating for category and class of aircraft; ATP rating in category meets this requirement
• First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate required
• Subject to DOT/FAA drug and/or alcohol testing requirements
• Knowledge of FAR, AIM, GOM guidelines, and Air Methods policies and procedures
• Regular scheduled attendance
• Ability to perform essential functions satisfactorily

Responsibilities

• Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner
• Complete pre-flight inspections and verify aircraft airworthiness through the Daily Flight Log
• Perform aircraft walk-arounds before entering the cockpit and after each flight
• Maintain final authority for aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
• Know all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft at the operational area
• Ensure the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems
• Complete required documentation
• Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards
• Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach
• Transport medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within the assigned operational area
• Perform other duties as assigned
