Description

The Rotational Engineering Co-Op Program is designed to give students a comprehensive, hands‑on experience across multiple facets of automation and control engineering. Over 18–24 months, participants rotate through three core areas: (1) Panel Shop & Field Services (2) Applications Projects & Upgrades (3) Advanced Automation Services, building expertise in hardware, electrical systems, software, and field engineering. Each rotation offers immersive learning opportunities, blending technical training with real‑world problem‑solving in both shop and customer environments.

By the end of the program, students will have enhanced their technical proficiency, collaborated with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, and engaged in activities such as system commissioning, cybersecurity enhancements, and modernization of legacy systems. This experience not only develops engineering skills but also strengthens communication, leadership, and customer‑facing capabilities. Successful participants may be offered a full‑time role aligned with their strengths and career aspirations, making this program an ideal launchpad for a future in industrial automation.

Rotation 1: Panel Shop & Field Services (Fall 2027)
Start your Co‑Op journey with an immersive experience that combines hands‑on engineering in our panel shop with real‑world field service work. You will build and wire electrical control panels from the ground up, mastering schematics, precision wiring, and quality testing. Then, step into the field under the guidance of a certified DeltaV specialist, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting system upgrades at customer sites. This rotation offers a unique opportunity to see how your work in the shop drives critical operations in chemical process facilities, giving you direct insight into the technology that keeps plants running safely and reliably.

Rotation 2: Applications Projects & Application Site and Upgrades (Summer 2028)

Advance your Co‑Op experience by working alongside experienced engineers to design, implement, and optimize control systems that power critical processes. You will learn to interpret automation documentation, configure DeltaV systems, and bridge the gap between hardware and software while supporting project execution from design through commissioning. This rotation offers hands‑on experience with programming, troubleshooting, and system upgrades, providing a clear understanding of how advanced automation improves safety, efficiency, and reliability across diverse industries.

Rotation 3: Advanced Automation Services & Sales (Spring 2029)
In this final rotation, you will explore the critical intersection of technology and business by working with our Advanced Automation Services and Sales teams. On the technical side, you will help optimize control system performance and operation effectiveness through alarm rationalization, high‑performance human machine interface design, advanced visualization techniques and digital twin operator training simulations that improve operator awareness and plant safety. You will also gain exposure to cybersecurity strategies and industry best practices designed to protect and enhance industrial operations. On the business side, you will collaborate with sales professionals to understand customer needs, develop solutions, and build relationships that drive growth. This rotation offers a unique blend of technical depth and customer engagement, preparing you to influence both innovation and business success.
