Job summary

ATI in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Rotational Process Control and Automation Engineer for a three-year program across Western Pennsylvania facilities. You will contribute to the architecture, modification, and maintenance of mission-critical automation systems, supporting process and quality improvements.

You will gain exposure to SCADA, HMIs, PLC networks, Windows server environments, and virtualization. The role emphasizes project planning, teamwork with shop floor personnel, and driving cost

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Industrial Automation/ Systems Engineering or similar field.
  • Experience with automation networks, security, and reliability in industrial environments is preferred.
  • SQL Server/Oracle database programming and administration is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead/participate in design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and evaluation of computer-based automation systems.
  • Plan projects including scheduling, resources, budget, and commissioning.
  • Oversee project workflow ensuring quality, on-time delivery and within budget.
  • Develop, deploy, test and maintain SCADA systems and HMIs.
  • Design, program, install and modify HMIs.
  • Maintain documentation of requirements and systems.
  • Participate in safety programs and capital projects as needed.
  • Lead problem-solving activities and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate with staff and shop floor personnel.
  • Organize and conduct audits.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or similar field

ATI is seeking to hire a Rotational Process Control and Automation Engineer in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to support Level II automation for our Specialty Rolled Products business unit.

Based in our Western Pennsylvania facilities, candidates would be involved in a three-year rotational program among the various facilities, gaining valuable exposure to the various operations and functional areas within the ATI Specialty Rolled Products Business Unit.

Reporting into the Automation Team Manager, you will have responsibility for the architecture, modification, and maintenance of mission critical computer-based automation systems that are essential to accomplishing goals related to process and quality improvement, cost reduction, equipment obsolescence/integration, security, and automation improvement.

In this role, you will be able to showcase your skills and have an ability to learn new technical skills. Technical skills that you will either use or learn includes:

  • Programming using Object Oriented Programming tools (e.g., C++, C#, Java, .NET)
  • Configuration, administration, maintenance, and upgrade of Windows PC & Server hardware/software.
  • Web page development/maintenance/administration.
  • Administration and maintenance of VMWare/HyperV-virtual machines, PC&A domains and Active Directory, Unix-based systems, DEC VMS, OS/2 systems, or DOS systems.
  • Programming/administration using PowerShell, REXX, VB, Visual Studio, Delphi, and ColdFusion.
  • Code management/collaboration tools (SVN).
Essential Functions
  • Lead/participate in the design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and evaluation of new and existing computer-based automation systems
  • Project planning of computer-based automation system projects, including project scheduling, resource and budget planning, commissioning planning
  • Oversee project workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure expected quality, timely delivery and within budget
  • Develop, deploy, test and maintain SCADA system to ensure functionality and monitor systems to quickly address problems or adjust automated processes
  • Design, program, install and alter/modify HMIs
  • Responsible for writing, maintaining and enhancing functional requirement and system documentation
  • Participation in world class safety program
  • Participate in capital projects as needed
  • Lead/participate in problem-solving activities; engineer and implement solutions
  • Interact with internal staff and shop floor personnel, as required, in the performance of job responsibilities
  • Organize and conduct audits
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or similar field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer-based automation experience including process automation network infrastructures, security, firewalls, and reliability
  • Experience with integrated system design, administration and maintenance in an industrial environment
  • SQL Server and Oracle database programming & administration
  • Familiarity with interfaces to Level I (PLC), control systems, MES systems and business systems
