Job summary

John Crane, a business of Smiths Group, seeks a Seal Repair Technician responsible for disassembly and assembly of rotating equipment per repair packets, performing DCI and documenting wear.

You will inspect returned material, determine repair scope, perform basic shop operations on drill press, grinder, bead blast polisher and lapping machine, and prepare components for assembly with close supervision.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of mechanical seal equipment experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, power or upstream markets.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings to customers and colleagues.
• Experience reading drawings and BOMs to verify materials and repair parts.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble and assemble rotating equipment per repair packet.
• Perform DCI (Dismantle Clean and Inspect) and document wear and condition of critical components.
• Inspect and evaluate material returned; determine repair operations and initiate work orders.
• Perform assembly of seal after parts replaced or reconditioned and ready for final assembly.
• Under supervision, repair returned seals and seal parts as required.
• Possibly determine price of repair and ensure assembly is structured correctly.
