Job summary

Chart Industries, Inc. in Stafford, TX, is seeking a Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer to design turbo expanders and support installation and commissioning onsite. You will use SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS and AutoCAD to deliver reliable equipment solutions.

The role requires 3+ years in heavy industrial environments, strong prep of drawings/BOMs, and independent project management. Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required, with proficiency in industry standards and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3+ years in air/gas handling, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering calculations, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, ASME, ASTM, API, MIL, SAE.
  • Proficient in Creo, ANSYS, SolidWorks, AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial fabrication, welding standards, lubrication, cooling, gas lines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities; strong communication and independent work.
  • Desire to grow with ERP, lean practices, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design turbo expander per project specs using SolidWorks.
  • Perform rotor-dynamics analysis.
  • Perform structural analysis of components including modal and harmonic analysis.
  • Specify hardware such as fasteners and o-rings.
  • Prepare and verify detailed drawings with proper dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform duties of test engineer.
  • Test set up and instrumentation readouts.

What Will You Do?
  • Design turbo expander per project specifications using SolidWorks in PLM/PDM managed system.
  • Perform Rotor-dynamics analysis
  • Perform structural analysis of various components, including Modal and harmonic analysis.
  • Specify appropriately sized hardware such as fasteners, o-rings, etc.
  • Prepare and verify detailed drawings for proper dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform duties of test engineer
  • Test set up-Instrumentation readouts
Your Experience Should Be...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of experience in air/gas handling, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of engineering calculations, drawings, and bills of material
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ANSI, ASME, ASTM, API, MIL, SAE)
  • Proficient in engineering software (Creo, ANSYS, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office tools
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial fabrication, welding standards, and mechanical systems (lubrication, cooling, gas lines)
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and decision‑making abilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently

Desired skills, knowledge and behaviors:

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and 2D/3D CAD software
  • Experience with ERP systems and lean manufacturing practices
  • Exposure to computer programming and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering license (or ability to obtain one)
