Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 3 years’ industry-related experience.
  • Strong condition monitoring knowledge in vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and ultrasonics.
  • Experience in a plant environment and familiarity with rotating equipment standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee equipment condition monitoring using vibration monitoring, oil analysis, process data, temperature, and ultrasonic surveys.
  • Develop and maintain a criticality-based QA/QC program for rotating equipment work.
  • Establish a Criticality Matrix for rotating equipment to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality work.
  • Perform investigations into rotating equipment failures and document results with corrective recommendations.
  • Review work execution and advise on practices to enhance quality and safety of field work.
  • Maintain the System 1 data acquisition system and manage preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assist with pre-planning turnarounds, shutdowns, and projects, including scheduling and logistics.

Function: Engineering and Engineering Services

Job Summary: The expectation of this position is to provide engineering and technical expertise to plant personnel as needed to maintain efficient continuous plant operations in the rotating equipment discipline. The applicant will provide solid mechanical and condition monitoring recommendations in resolving rotating equipment problems in the areas of routine, shutdown, and project activities. This position will provide input for all aspects of vibration, lubrication, and seal analysis. The role of the rotating equipment engineer encompasses all rotating equipment at the Donaldsonville facility (6 Ammonia Plants, 5 Urea plants, and 4 Nitric Acid plants). The applicant will uphold CFI’s High Safety Performance standards while maintaining High Craft Quality Performance and Productivity expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee critical equipment condition monitoring using continuous and offline vibration monitoring equipment, oil analysis results, process data, temperature, and ultrasonic surveys. (System 1, PI, Emerson)
  • Develop and maintain a criticality-based Quality Control and Quality Assurance program for work performed on rotating equipment.
  • Establish a Criticality Matrix for rotating equipment to assign proper QA and QC measures required to execute work in a safe, efficient and quality manner.
  • Perform technical investigations/audits or independent research in rotating equipment and material failures, documenting the results and making recommendations to resolve issues.
  • Review work execution efforts of millwright craft personnel and make recommendations for work execution practices to the Rotating Equipment Superintendent and the Millwright Supervisor to enhance the quality and safety of field work.
  • Maintain the System 1 data acquisition system.
  • Review, design and manage critical machinery Preventive Maintenance program for respective equipment and lubrication systems.
  • Perform analyses of pertinent management information reports and equipment histories for the purpose of identifying items with high maintenance machinery costs or with lubrication problems and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Assist with managing the Mechanical Integrity program as it relates to rotating equipment for the Donaldsonville Nitrogen Complex.
  • Assists in monitoring the Mechanical Integrity documentation required to maintain the plant computerized maintenance management system.
  • Assist with pre-planning scheduled turnarounds, shutdowns, and special projects including event timing, accumulation of job lists, ordering of parts and materials, sequencing of jobs around critical path work, sizing of work crews based on job estimation, and preparation of an overall schedule.
  • Assist in the execution of critical and non-critical overhauls and repairs (on and off-site).
  • Assist with the annual spare parts stock review effort and submit inventory adjust recommendations to the Rotating Superintendent for approval.
  • Communicate with production management problems relating to rotating equipment failures and offer solid correction recommendations.
  • Review and assist with the selection of contractors (e.g., execute negotiation of contracts and evaluate contract performance).
  • Manage maintenance of the department’s technical files on equipment, vendor catalog library and industrial codes (ASME, ANSI, State).
  • An understanding of critical and general-purpose rotating equipment and their systems.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors to establish work scope, ensure quality and monitor cost of machinery fabrication and repairs.
  • Travel as required.
  • Manage equipment repairs at vendor’s facilities.
  • Understanding of best practice inspection and repair methods.
  • Travel as required to vendor facilities for inspection walk downs and quality control points.
  • Travel as needed to attend specialized training focused on rotating machinery reliability.
Incumbent Attributes
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 3 years’ industry-related experience.
  • Experience in a plant environment is preferred.
  • Strong condition monitoring knowledge in the areas of vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and ultrasonics required.
  • Certification in these techniques is preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are preferred.
  • Communication and presentation skills are sufficient to communicate thoughts succinctly with Management.
  • Specific knowledge in rotating and reciprocating equipment, vibration analyses, fluids product handling, electrical systems, regulatory design codes (rotating equipment codes and standards); OSHA regulations, manpower coordination.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project).
  • Knowledge of industrial codes (ASME, ANSI, API).
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • SAP system is preferred.
  • Must be able to prove drug and alcohol free at random or for cause.
  • Flexibility for international travel and domestic travel.
  • Capability of acquiring, maintaining and possessing a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as well as a Passport.
