Job summary

NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Houston is seeking a Helicopter Pilot/Ground Safety Officer to pilot aircraft used in research, development, flight training, and test programs. You will also serve as the airport liaison for the Aircraft Operations Division.

You will maintain safety and flight operation expertise, lead ground safety meetings, participate in investigations, and provide rotary-wing instruction while keeping all pilot qualifications current.

Qualifications

• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate/License with rotorcraft ratings.
• FAA Flight Instructor Certificate/License with ratings.
• 1500 hours flight time as PIC or co-pilot in any aircraft.
• 250 hours PIC in rotary-wing; 75 hours night; 100 hours in last 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain expertise in ground safety, aircraft maintenance, and flight operations to evaluate critical issues related to safe operation of aircraft.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and safety guidelines; advise management on safety issues.
• Organize and chair ground safety meetings; represent the Center/Agency/government/industry at meetings and boards as required.
• Serve as investigator or team member for aviation mishaps; conduct follow-up inspections on discrepancies.
• Act as rotary-wing instructor pilot; maintain qualifications; conduct annual egress, emergency procedures, and CRM training.
