Job description

Job Title: Rose House Housing Peer Companion
Schedule/ Hours: Open Shifts: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Hours may vary based on need, including evenings & weekends.

Job Location:Garrison, NY
Payrate:$20.60 per hour

Position Summary:

The Rose House Housing Peer Companion is a dual-role position that supports both the daily operations of the Rose House Crisis Respite and provides peer-based housing support for participants enrolled in People USA’s Supportive Housing programs. This position combines the responsibilities of a Peer Companion with those of a Housing Coordinator to offer holistic, trauma-informed, person-centered services that support recovery, housing stability, and community integration.

The Peer Companion side of this role involves offering peer support to guests during their crisis respite stay, maintaining a welcoming and recovery-oriented environment, and providing emotional support through shared lived experience. The Housing component focuses on helping individuals transition into and maintain independent housing, assisting with budgeting, service linkages, and ongoing peer support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Support guests during intake, stay, and discharge.

· Share lived experience and promote mental health wellness and recovery.

· Assist guests in accessing mental health services, entitlements, and community resources.

· Utilize trauma-informed tools such as WRAP, ASIST, and Motivational Interviewing.

· Provide transportation to appointments or stores as needed (using agency vehicle).

· Answer and provide telephone support on the 24-hour peer warm line.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at the Rose House.

· Engage guests in wellness-focused and social activities during downtime.

· Conduct housing screenings and educate individuals about People USA’s housing programs and supports.

· Assist with budgeting, including rent, utilities, and program subsidies.

· Explore and assist with apartment searches and lease agreements.

· Support moving processes and help furnish rental units.

· Provide regular check-ins with participants, including home visits.

· Connect participants to services for wellness, recovery, education, and employment.

· Advocate for clients to overcome barriers to housing or care.

· Assist with developing wellness goals aligned with the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

· Bridge participants to natural supports and peer recovery communities.

· Attend local SPOA and housing meetings as required.

· Maintain documentation in electronic health records (AWARDS) and hard copy files.

Requirements:

· Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.

· High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

· Must have reliable transportation.

· Completion of the Academy of Peer Services and pursuit of NYS Peer Specialist Certification (within 6 months of hire).

· Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.

· Good time management, self-direction, and interpersonal skills.

· Demonstrated knowledge of local community resources and housing supports.

· Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

Work Environment & Travel:This position operates primarily in community-based settings, including participant homes and the Rose House environment. Travel within Putnam County is required, and staff must be willing to drive to appointments, participant homes, and housing opportunities. Up to 75% travel expected.
