Job description

Room Service Cook - PRN (As Needed)

Prepares and serves hot food items for patient meal room service, ensuring delivery within 45 minutes of order placement. Manages multiple recipes, maintains a clean work area, and follows strict safety and sanitation guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the Safety of Customers and Team Members (according to HACCP and County Health Dept. Guidelines):
    • Wash hands frequently and wear gloves appropriately.
    • Follow infection prevention practices and report potential risks.
    • Maintain work areas clean and organized.
    • Monitor and record food and equipment temperatures; correct or escalation “out‑of‑range” occurrences.
    • Store food and supplies properly labeling, dating, and rotating.
    • Operate equipment safely and report unsafe conditions.
    • Produce food in an allergy‑safe manner.
  • Ensures Positive Service Outcomes:
    • Follow department work schedule and arrive before task start.
    • Set up, maintain, and break down workstation according to area requirements.
    • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately and attentively.
    • Complete area checklists and forms.
    • Operate and care for equipment per manufacturer’s guidelines.
    • Remain flexible to support other team members across the department.
  • Engages in Efforts to Create a World Class Work Environment:
    • Follow uniform specifications and maintain neat clothing and shoes.
    • Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet goals.
    • Communicate respectfully and clearly.
    • Respect cultural traditions of team members and customers.
    • Work in other areas of the department as needed.
  • Ensures the High Quality of Menu Items Prepared by Utilizing Culinary Techniques:
    • Properly peel and cut fresh products; include ability to butcher meats.
    • Utilize proper cooking techniques (dry, wet, and combination methods).
    • Handle and cook vegetables, meats, spices, pasta, and dairy products appropriately.
    • Read and follow recipes accurately; apply measurement/scaling skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Qualifications
  • Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
  • Required Minimum Certification: ServSafe Food Handler and ServSafe Allergen certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Required Minimum Experience: At least 6 months kitchen experience (preferably line cook). One year high‑volume, short‑order line cook experience highly preferred.
  • Required Minimum Skills: Communicate in verbal and written English; understand basic math. Complete mandatory computer‑based learning and pass exam. Follow safety regulations in a foodservice healthcare environment.
