Job description

The Room Service Assistant in the department of Catering at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center in Houston provides timely and accurate communication and documentation regarding catering order changes, approvals, retirement requests, and cancellations in the department tracking system.

This is a part-time position, working 20 hours per week. The schedule will be Monday-Thursday, 7am to noon.

Hourly breakdown of salary range

Minimum $18.00 - Midpoint $20.54 - Maximum $23.08

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing orders, invoices, and approvals.
  • Effective written and verbal communication for coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive changes and prioritize urgent requests.
  • Proficiency in CaterTrax and related ordering systems (on the job training).
  • Accurate documentation and record-keeping practices.
  • Understanding CFS system usage, approvals, and retirement request procedures (on the job training).
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
Timely Communication
  • Report all order changes (date, time, quantity, location, menu) immediately. If changes occur within three (3) days of the event, initiate a group text to the team to alert them of the change.
  • Update the order and clearly mark "REVISED" on the printout. Circle all changes and prepare copies for the cooks and the north team.
Order Review Checklist
  • Complete checklist before finalizing orders.
  • Date, time, quantity, and location are correct.
  • Guest Count & Menu: Food and beverage quantities match the guest count.
  • Special instructions are entered on the invoice.
Cancellation Procedures
  • Immediately report cancellations made within three (3) days of the event.
  • Notify the team as soon as possible for large or custom orders.
  • Maintain written documentation of all client and vendor communications.
Recordkeeping
  • Track all CEO-related catering requests and correspondence.
  • Store custom menus, pricing approvals, and related documentation.
  • Maintain records of daily orders requiring attendants.
  • Save all menu signage files for events and catering setups.
EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate's degree in communications, nutrition, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: At least one year of experience in a high-volume call center, telephone communications, hospitality, nutrition, or food service. No experience required with associate's degree.

Successful completion of the MD Anderson apprenticeship program or 9 months completion of the program can be substituted for a maximum of one year of experience.

Preferred: Call center, hospitality, catering, or customer-facing office experience is needed. Bilingual Spanish would be a plus.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
