Job summary

YSS is seeking a Rooftop Gardens Coordinator in Des Moines to lead daily operations of hydroponic and greenhouse systems while guiding a six-month workforce development program for young adults. You will mentor participants, manage curriculum delivery, and help ensure program success with strong record-keeping and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field.
• Hands-on irrigation, electrical, and mechanical system experience.
• Basic computer proficiency (Windows, Word, Excel).
• Willingness to travel; valid driver’s license; clean driving record.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead Program Operations: oversee daily maintenance, growing, harvesting, and operation of hydroponic and greenhouse systems.
• Grow Participant Potential: supervise and mentor youth through a six-month workforce development program.
• Teach & Engage: facilitate curriculum-based learning and create a safe, supportive environment.
• Keep the Program on Track: maintain records, track data, and ensure reporting and compliance.
• Build Community Connections: develop relationships with local businesses and community organizations.
