Job summary

Blackhawk Mining, LLC is seeking an underground coal miner to operate in a high-demand mining environment in West Virginia. You will perform duties around roof bolting, face ventilation, and material handling while adhering to safety policies and regulatory requirements.

You must understand Safe Job Procedures, SOPs, and know when to apply supplemental support according to the contract and management directions.

Qualifications

• Underground coal miner's certificate required.
• Annual 8 hour refresher training required.
• On-the-job experience preferred.
• Vocational training optional.

Responsibilities

• Assess conditions during mining and take action during roof bolting cycle.
• Scale top rock and ribs as conditions warrant; know when supplemental support is needed.
• Follow the approved bolt sequence according to the Roof Control Plan.
• Maintain proper face ventilation (permanent and temporary controls).
• Load and unload materials and supplies as required.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job description

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Performs all duties and activities in a manner that conforms to site specific safety requirements, company policy, state and federal regulations.

Responsible for assessing conditions encountered during mining and taking appropriate action during the roof bolting cycle; scaling top rock and ribs as conditions warrant; know when supplemental support is needed; know and follow the proper bolt sequence according to the Approved Roof Control Plan.

• Maintain proper face ventilation both permanent and temporary controls.
• Load and unload materials and supplies as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Understanding of section ventilation and cable handling procedures.
• Know the Safe Job Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, company safety policies, and applicable rules and regulations.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

This position requires the operator to possess the dexterity (refer to Physical Abilities) to work and operate machinery and equipment in a coal seam height that varies. The operator must constantly be attentive to the changing geological conditions and surrounding environment.
