Montana Materials & Construction, a CRH Company, seeks an experienced roller screed operator for asphalt paving projects in Helena, MT. You will operate a paving screed or roller, and other heavy equipment, to lay and finish asphalt in alignment with project plans and quality standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and reliability with potential overtime. DOE wage range is posted, and field travel to sites is expected as projects require.

Position Overview

In this role, you'll operate a paving screed or roller, along with various other types of heavy equipment, in order to pave asphalt. Wage: $23.00-$35.50/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime. Work could include Davis Bacon Wages and Non-Davis Bacon Wages.

• You have a background in heavy civil construction, specifically asphalt paving. (3-6 years).
• You're an effective leader who is skilled in directing other employees.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
• Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications, as instructed by crew superintendent to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
• Responsible for proper compaction and smoothing of asphalt.
• Make normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls.
• Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
• Keep machines cleaned and maintained.
• Travel to and from various locations.
• Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking and compacting of asphalt materials.
• Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
• Promptly communicate with paving crew on any flaws in material.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have a current and valid driver's license.
• Demonstrated construction, asphalt paving, or related experience required.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
• Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
• Demonstrates the willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks.
• Demonstrates the ability to work and communicate well with supervisor, plant personnel, and other employees.
• Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
• Must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Requirements

• CDL a plus but not required.
