Socket.dev is seeking a highly motivated software engineer specializing in Roku development to join our team in the United States. You will provide technical expertise, mentor peers, and drive features from design to deployment within an Agile environment.

The role focuses on building a scalable Roku library for video playback, integrating with Brightscript or C/Java as needed, and continuously innovating to maintain leadership in OTT platforms.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software development in applicable technologies OR 2+ years on set-top/OTT platforms.
  • Experience with Roku SDK (and Brightscript) OR strong C/Java knowledge.
  • Proficient at contributing to codebases from existing code and from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality, reusable, and scalable code.
  • Provide guidance on implementation and design best practices to other developers.
  • Produce design artifacts such as class diagrams and sequence diagrams for Roku library features or client solutions.
  • Implement product features within a team using best practices to meet product deliverables.
  • Implement new features and enhance existing code to increase operating efficiency and extensibility.
  • Participate in Agile sprint planning sessions and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist Product Management with high-level estimation and clarification of technical implementation of features.
  • Prepare software packages for deployment that adhere to defined standard deployment policies.
  • Generate product documentation for releases.
  • Mentor junior developers throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Produce a reliable, performant, configurable, state-of-the-art SDK.
  • Write clean, concise, readable code following common design patterns.
  • Push technical boundaries and propose new processes and technologies.
  • Ensure quality by writing effective automated unit tests.
  • Translate functional requirements into solutions that work with current architecture.
  • Develop prototypes and proof of concept projects to test new technologies or ideas.

Job description

We are looking to hire a highly motivated software engineer who specializes in Roku development. If you're someone who can provide technical expertise in scripting languages and participate in advanced level design, we'd be happy to have you on our team. Apart from that, you'd also be responsible for monitoring industry trends and basing your development on them in order to maintain and enhance the product's leadership position in the industry.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of software development in applicable technologies OR 2+ years of working specifically on set-top or OTT platforms.
  • Experience with the Roku SDK (and Brightscript) and other VOD platforms OR strong experience and understanding of the C and/or Java language.
  • Proficient at generating code in existing codebases and from scratch.
  • Valuable collaboration with teammates and stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm for building a Roku library that handles all aspects of video playback.
