WORT volunteer, supporter, and friend Roderick Cook passed away suddenly on September 24, 2024, at age 57. His Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 15, from 12-4 pm at the Harmony Bar.
Rod was a long-time Madison resident, world traveler, brilliant writer and illustrator, devotee of dogs, and aficionado of the absurd. He was deeply tuned in to the music and art he loved and shared with many friends and acquaintances. In college, he studied political history and international politics and was always a pacifist at heart. These passions came together in a unique and beautiful way in Rod. He was a graduate of East High and UW-Madison, and also worked towards a master’s degree in library science. Rod was a former chef, a Union Cab driver, a WORT-FM volunteer, and a regular poll worker.
Rod made friends easily, and his friends and family were of utmost importance to him. When he lived in Austin, Texas, he once visited a cemetery with friends and saw a bench inscribed with a message hoping loved ones would gather there and talk. He said, “That’s what I want when I die. I want my friends to come hang out on Rod’s bench.”
In his memory, you are invited to celebrate Rod’s life at the Harmony Bar this Sunday, December 15, from noon to 4 pm, where all the seats will be Rod’s bench. His family and friends say, “We love you, Rod, and we hope your path forward is easier than it was here on earth. Happy trails. Until we meet again.”
All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family. Online condolences can be shared at www.866allfaiths.com.
