Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Survey Assistant in Plano, TX to support surveying and mapping activities under the guidance of a Senior Surveyor. You will collect land data, assist with data transfer, and help operate survey instruments in a dynamic team environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on surveying tasks, safe equipment handling, and collaboration with field crews to deliver accurate spatial data and maintain project readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Use basic knowledge of the general concepts of field survey work.
  • Collect data on land shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions.
  • Assist in transferring survey data to proper files in the network.
  • Operate and maintain survey instruments and measuring devices including levels, robotic total stations, GPS equipment and data collectors.
  • Assist in laying out stakes, clearing line of survey, and handling surveying equipment safely.
  • Maintain equipment and survey vehicle; ensure cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

Your Opportunity

We provide our clients a full range of surveying and mapping services. Through our work, we define land boundaries and analyze spatial data. In this role you will work as a team member under the guidance of a Senior Surveyor, performing surveying, mapping and data collection activities.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Use basic knowledge of the general concepts of field survey work.
  • Collect data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimension of land or land features.
  • Assist in transferring survey data to the proper files in the computer network.
  • Assist survey crew in operating and maintaining survey instruments and measuring devices including levels, robotic total stations, GPS equipment and data collectors.
  • Perform basic tasks including holding level rod, prism pole or tape at designated points, laying out stakes, and clearing brush and trees from line of survey with machete, brush hook or chainsaw.
  • Maintain equipment and survey vehicle; clean and organize vehicle.
  • Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic knowledge of surveying.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to execute surveying tasks in an accurate, efficient, detailed and safe manner.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills
  • Physical ability to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain with the ability to lift/carry surveying equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in Land Surveying or related field is preferred.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary
