Job description

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Rocky Mountain Jr High for a Mild/Moderate Special Education English/English Language Arts Teacher. This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 182 days (9 months) per year, and is paid according to the Educator Salary Schedule. This position starts the upcoming 2025-26 school year (note start date).

Job Description:

Under the direction of the building principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students. The teacher will create a flexible program and class environment conducive to learning and personal growth, establish effective rapport with students, motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and maintain professional relations with staff and parents.

Essential Functions (not exhaustive):
  1. Develop and implement IEPs and BIPs with fidelity as outlined by the IEP team, including students, parents, teachers, and administration.
  2. Implement data collection systems, accurately collect and summarize data.
  3. Monitor, redirect, and modify student progress regarding behaviors and performance, including administering intensive behavior intervention programs.
  4. Teach subject matter utilizing the district's adopted curriculum, integrating appropriate learning activities.
  5. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques.
  6. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create a functional learning atmosphere.
  7. Utilize Least Restrictive Behavior Interventions (LRBI) to support skill development.
  8. Support students in developing transition plans and post-secondary goals.
  9. Engage students using various instructional methods, materials, and pacing.
  10. Provide specific and timely feedback, evaluate student growth, and maintain records.
  11. Model and train staff on program implementation and procedures.
  12. Collaborate with team members to provide effective instruction and support.
  13. Use technology in instruction effectively.
  14. Maintain classroom organization and discipline, ensuring a safe environment.
  15. Measure student progress using appropriate techniques.
  16. Communicate with parents about academic, behavioral, and attendance issues.
  17. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals.
  18. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  19. Participate in training and coordinate with outside agencies as needed.
  20. Maintain compliance with district, USBE, and IDEA regulations regarding student files.
  21. Maintain regular attendance and demonstrate professional ethics.
  22. Perform other tasks as assigned by the principal or district administration.
Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Assume and maintain various postures for extended periods.
  • Utilize quick body movements for safety and behavior management.
  • Participate in Mandt training.
  • May work with biohazards.

Degree and License Requirements:

  • Valid Utah Special Education K-12 license (mild/moderate or severe).
  • Highly Qualified in Secondary English Language Arts.
