Job summary

LEAP is seeking a Safety Officer for Test & Launch to ensure rocket engine test and launch activities are planned and executed safely, in compliance with regulations and approved procedures. This role leads safety programs, works with engineering and operations teams, and interfaces with local authorities and launch ranges in a dynamic field environment.

The position requires on-site presence during hazardous operations, travel to LEAP test sites, and close collaboration with technical teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7+ years of hands-on safety experience in high-hazard operations.
• Experience supporting hazardous operations in the field and risk verification.
• Strong understanding of hazardous materials, pressure systems, fire prevention, emergency response.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work with technical personnel, regulators, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Operational Safety & Stop-Work: Support safe test/launch; stop unsafe operations until controls verified.
• Risk Management & Hazard Analysis: Conduct hazard analyses, inspections, risk assessments; maintain risk registers.
• Test & Launch Readiness: Participate in readiness reviews and go/no-go decisions; verify safety controls and personnel readiness.
• Hazardous Operations: Establish controls for propulsion testing, cryogenics, propellant handling; define exclusion zones and operating limits.
• Incident Investigation & Corrective Action: Lead investigations and track corrective actions; incorporate lessons learned.
• Emergency Response & Contingency Planning: Develop and exercise emergency plans; coordinate with responders and launch ranges.
• Regulatory Compliance & Safety Assurance: Monitor requirements and permits; review changes for controls.
• Training & Field Safety: Deliver training, inspect equipment, verify PPE, maintain training records.
