Job summary

LEAP is seeking a Safety Officer – Test & Launch to lead the development and execution of safety programs for rocket engine and stage testing and launch activities. This field-based role requires on-site presence during hazardous operations and travel to LEAP test sites, reporting to the CEO with a path to Mission Assurance.

You will identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, establish controls, and coordinate with engineering, operations, fire departments, and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, or related field.
• 7+ years of operational safety experience in aerospace or hazardous operations.
• Experience developing safety programs for hazardous operations.
• Strong knowledge of fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency response, and industrial safety.

Responsibilities

• Operational Safety & Stop-Work Authority: stop unsafe operations and verify corrective actions.
• Risk Management & Hazard Analysis: conduct hazard analyses and maintain risk registers.
• Test & Launch Readiness: participate in readiness reviews and go/no-go decisions.
• Hazardous Operations: control rocket propulsion testing, cryogenics, propellants, and safety zones.
• Incident Investigation & Corrective Action: lead investigations and track corrective actions.
• Emergency Response & Contingency Planning: develop and exercise emergency plans.
• Regulatory Compliance & Safety Assurance: monitor OSHA and industry standards, review changes.
• Training & Field Safety: deliver safety training and inspect equipment and PPE.
