Job summary

Sylvania seeks a school-based assistant to support speech therapy sessions under certificated staff, supervise students, and handle clerical tasks in Rochester schools.

Requirements include a high school diploma and 72 college quarter credits or AA, plus strong teamwork, written and verbal communication, and computer literacy. Fingerprint clearance is required and lifting up to 50 pounds may be necessary.

Hours are 7.0 hours per day, Wednesday and Thursday and is a temporary position. The position is shared between Rochester Middle School and Rochester High School.

The position description is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and the requirements of the job change.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under supervision of certificated staff, assist with individualized or small group speech therapy sessions.
  • Supervise students in the hallways and in the lunch room.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist with instruction as needed.
  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Conduct all work in a safe manner and comply with rules & regulations as specified by district policies and procedures.
  • Provide social/emotional and behavioral support for students.
  • Teach students basic life skills and social skills information.
  • Physically be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to do all student care jobs including; student hygiene, lifting and personal care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Seventy-two (72) college quarter credits and/or AA required and/or completion of ETS test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and to follow through efficiently and independently on assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist students in gaining social, academic and self-help skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing. Knowledge and ability to operate computers.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
