Job summary

ENGIE North America Inc. seeks a Remote Operations Control Center (ROCC) Operator to monitor and control a growing Battery Energy Storage System across the US, including ERCOT and CAISO markets.

The role supports remote maintenance, safety procedures, and coordination with field teams from Houston, with a rotating night/day schedule. You will engage in SCADA-driven operations, alarm response, and performance monitoring while ensuring compliance with HSE policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or two-year technical certificate in electrical or instrumentation controls preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA and remote operations in power/energy contexts.
  • Willingness to work night/day shifts and Houston-based office presence.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: perform check-in/check-out for field staff and manage equipment with SCADA, monitor alarms, and follow safety protocols.
  • Grid-facing monitoring: track transmission-level voltage, coordinate outages and TDSP/ISO interfaces, and plan test requests with grid operators.
  • Remote Asset Operations: coordinate restoration with Field Service, perform remote maintenance and first-line troubleshooting.
  • Performance monitoring: analyze system reports, flag deviations, and coordinate remote maintenance and recalibration as needed.

Job description

As the Remote Operations Control Center "ROCC" Operator, you will be responsible for 24 x 7 remote operations and monitoring of a rapidly growing standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across the US for current Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) markets. This is an engaged role that will carry out planned maintenance remotely and alert the field operations to implement maintenance of issues needing attention that have flagged overnight.

Every day this role carries four major components of responsibility the ROCC will be responsible for:

  • Safety - where you carry out check in / check out procedure of field staff for all operating assets, and interact with SCADA to engage/disengage equipment (site breakers, ESS units, etc), and monitor SCADA and internal automated alerting tools for severe alarms / warnings and engage emergency protocols
  • Grid-facing monitoring - monitor voltage profile of transmission level BESS assets and interact with transmission and grid operators, coordinate outage scheduling and input to Transmission Distribution Service Provider and Independent Systems Operators "TDSP/ISO" interfaces, coordinate test request submission and approval with grid operators, and coordinate real-time asset testing during commissioning of upcoming facilities
  • Remote Asset Operations - Coordinate unit restoration with Field Service personnel, carry out planned maintenance activities (state of charge calibration, voltage balancing, and testing) remotely via equipment SCADA platforms, and perform first line troubleshooting of unplanned reactive maintenance
  • Performance monitoring - Utilize system reports and analytic tools to flag performance deviations and system degradation. Operator will be directly involved in diagnostics and issue tracking, and will coordinate with cross functional teams and/or lead remote maintenance tasks(such as balancing and recalibration) as needed
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum high school diploma, or two (2) year diploma/certificate in a technical program (Electrical or Instrumentation controls), other degrees/certificates may be considered
  • Knowledgeable in remote operations and control, in field equivalent roles in the power/energy/oil & gas industry, equivalent experience in control room operations, or military equivalent experience in procedure adherence, control rooms operations and monitoring the ships/submarines/or aircraft control room/operations
  • Experience with HSE protocols. Training will also be provided on company-specific HSE protocols
  • Experience with SCADA systems or similar software
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies is essential
  • This role is office based, requires physical presence in Houston, Texas and will be a work schedule that is night and day shift rotation
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Ability to use company computer with Microsoft Suite of software tools and SCADA systems
Compensation

Salary Range: $77,100 - $118,220 USD annually

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
