Job description

Our mission is to create advanced robots that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk in conflict zones and enhancing efficiency in labor-intensive industries.

We are on the lookout for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team. Your previous experience in robotics isn't a prerequisite — it's your talent and determination that truly count.

We expect that many of our team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work.

Our Culture

We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with. Please read more about our culture here: https://foundation.bot/culture .

Who should join

  • You like working in person with a team in San Francisco.
  • You deeply believe that this is the most important mission for humanity and needs to happen yesterday.
  • You are highly technical - regardless of the role you are in. We are building technology; you need to understand technology well.
  • You care about aesthetics and design inside out. If it's not the best product ever, it bothers you, and you need to “fix” it.
  • You don't need someone to motivate you; you get things done.

Why We Are Hiring for This Role

We’re seeking a Robotics Technician to join our robotics team. This is more than just a hands-on assembly job—it’s a strategic, high-impact role where you’ll contribute to how our robotic systems are built, tested, and scaled. You must have a passion for building systems from the ground up, this role offers the opportunity to be involved in both prototyping and shaping production processes.

You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, and product teams to bring complex electromechanical systems to life, improve assembly workflows, and help drive product quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test robotic subsystems and full systems with precision and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.
  • Provide feedback on build challenges and suggest process improvements or design changes.
  • Assist with documentation, including work instructions, BOMs, and test procedures.
  • Support rapid prototyping, iteration, and hardware validation efforts.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during the build process; help root out causes and propose solutions.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe assembly and test environment.
  • Partner with supply chain and operations teams to evaluate components and materials.

What Kind of Person Are We Looking for

  • Hands-on experience assembling electromechanical systems—academic, personal, or professional.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical tools (e.g., soldering irons, torque drivers, multimeters).
  • Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and validation processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to contribute beyond the bench.
  • Associate degree required; a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field is a plus.
  • Prior experience building robots or complex hardware systems in school, labs, or internships is a plus.
  • Exposure to CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) or version control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with robotics hardware: actuators, sensors, PCBs, etc. is a plus.

We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.
